Skye 🤍

Registered Name: Skye Serenade

Born in New York on May 17, 2014

Sired by Freud Out of Onota by Strong Hope

When ONOTA gave birth to a healthy brown filly by FREUD on May 17, 2014, the gift of a carefully planned mating eleven months earlier had become visible. The pedigree of the little filly, from her dam who sold for $350,000 as a Taylor Made consigned yearling at Keenland, all the way back to her storied maternal ancestors the Champion Fillies Chris Evert & Winning Colors gave strong hope to a promising future.

The progeny of her sire FREUD dominated NY-Bred leader boards, and have earned over $64,000,000 worldwide. Her breeder Becky Thompson, and partner Lyn Burleson have collected significant awards from the New York Breeding Program. Freud alone has generated over $3,500,00 in lifetime stallion awards.

SKYE’S racetrack trainer LEO O’BRIEN, had achieved notoriety in the early nineties with stakes winning NY-Bred siblings in his shedrow: Fourstars Dave who earned $1,636,737 and Fourstars Allstar who made $1,596,760. By the time Skye joined Team O’Brien, his charges had amassed over $25,000,000.

When we met SKYE she was trembling and trapped in a frozen pasture at the once iconic Clermont Farm in Germantown, NY.  She had been off the track for just over two years. She was frightened and starving. Her muscles had begun to waste in an attempt to nourish her emaciated body. Her whereabouts from her last race date, until her custody via a cruelty case was assigned to Unbridled in March of 2019 remain unknown.

Unbridled invested significant time, money, and resources into her refeeding and rehabilitation. With care and nourishment, SKYE gained weight and reclaimed her physical health. The deeper emotional wounds that she suffered while in neglect have scarred her with an unrelenting anxiety. Despite hay 24/7, plentiful grain, a comfortable stall, and plentiful love  -- her worry is palpable.

Today, as SKYE continues to evolve, she has captured the heart of a Becky who loves her unconditionally. Not her breeder Becky Thomas, but rather Becky Abitz, a fine young horsewoman and the barn manager at Unbridled. In time, Skye will come to know that she has nothing to fear, her troubles are over and she is home. Home forevermore.
