When Generation Of Love came to our attention she had been sorted for slaughter at a Bastrop, Louisiana facility. She was pregnant, severely malnourished, and desperately trying to hold on to her unborn foal. The Jockey Club confirmed the report that she was bred in 2021 to Mo For The Money, a stallion standing at Anderson Farms in Arkansas.

LOVE was in such terrible condition that we shipped her off the lot and straight to the veterinary clinic.  She had suffered so much biting, kicking, and stress on the slaughter-bound lot that she became sick and lost her foal while fighting for her own life. The hell she endured was far from the royalty she was born into just thirteen years earlier.

GENERATION OF LOVE was bred by the late John and Betty Mabee, iconic and kindly people based in California. She raced in their Golden Eagle Farm colors at Santa Anita, and in just two starts, one at age three and the other at age four, she won and placed third, and earned $40,320.

At the age of five, LOVE was bred to Hard Spun, and sold by Pope McLean through the November Breeding Stock Sale at Keeneland in Kentucky for $50,000. She was pregnant for the first time and purchased by Arkansas-based Shortleaf Stable, the Thoroughbred operation of John Ed Anthony, chairman of family-owned Anthony Timberlands and famed Loblolly Stable.

LOVE gave birth year-after-year for Shortleaf Stable, and thereafter in 2020 and 2021 for Anderson Farm. Her second foal named Spanky, sired by To Honor And Serve, won 9 races and earned over $161,794. LOVE is so gentle and sweet, we imagine that she must have been a wonderful mother. When we saved her, she was pregnant for the ninth time; we had hoped to save her unborn foal with her, but it was too late.

LOVE arrived at Unbridled on December 31, 2021. Her kindly countenance and big soft eyes belie the pain of the betrayal she suffered when discarded after doing all that had been asked of her. Her velvety nuzzles draw every visitor to her side. She loves to be doted on and groomed. Her body is in need of much weight, and thankfully she is eating her way back to optimum health. When she lets us know that is ready, we will see if she is suitable for pleasure riding.  LOVE is a favorite of volunteers and young students. All of the extra attention and gentle hands upon her are helping to restore her faith in humanity. Her story of survival is a testament to the immutable spirit of mares.

We are looking forward to LOVE's full recovery and revealing of her magnificence in all her splendor. We are so grateful to our loving community that leapt into action when LOVE needed a lifeline. You are her Angels.
