TEDDY'S STORY
At 5 AM on April 8, 2026, the Greene County Sheriff's Office called Unbridled Sanctuary.
A miniature horse had been struck by a train.
He was alive. He was in shock. He needed a team.
Sergeant Schrader and his deputies stood in the dark with Teddy — steady, present, unwilling to leave him — until we arrived. We loaded him into our truck and drove directly to Rhinebeck Equine, where an extraordinary veterinary team was ready and waiting.
Thorough ultrasound. Full X-ray series. A miracle, slowly revealed: a small vertebral fracture, a hairline rib fracture, no broken legs, no catastrophic internal bleeding.
Teddy survived the train.
Now he needs us to get him all the way home.
HIS RECOVERY
Teddy is currently stabilized at Rhinebeck Equine. He will spend approximately two weeks in their emergency facility, followed by several months of rehabilitation at Unbridled Sanctuary. His estimated veterinary costs are $7,500–$10,000.
Every dollar goes directly to his care — his medications, his monitoring, his gelding surgery, and the patient work of rebuilding trust after trauma.
When Teddy comes home to Unbridled, he will have a pasture, a herd, and a name that people know for years to come.
WHY THIS MATTERS
This morning we were ready. We had a truck. We had a trailer. We had Rhinebeck Equine. Because of supporters like you, we could say yes without hesitation at 5 AM.
But Teddy's story is not unique. Last week we transported a 32-year-old thoroughbred facing eviction. Tomorrow, the phone will ring again. Being ready — with the infrastructure, the partnerships, and the community support — is everything.
You make that possible.
THANK YOU TO TEDDY'S TEAM
To Sergeant Schrader, Deputy Monaco, and Deputy McCort of the Greene County Sheriff's Office — you gave Teddy his first chance.
To the team at Rhinebeck Equine — your readiness, your skill, your willingness to work to save his life.
To everyone reading this — you are about to become part of his team.
Every gift, at any amount, brings Teddy one step closer to home.
